2007 HARVEST RECAP
During the harvest of 2007, we took on over 8 inches of rain. The surprise was that the fruit remained sound, continued to ripen and developed nice flavors. The keys to our success with this harvest were our vigilant focus on grape growing early in the season and the cold temperatures this fall during the rain events. The fruit took on very little of the rain and the clusters remained healthy. Bunch rot or botrytis was a non-issue because the grapes were healthy going into our rainy weather. The result is wines that are pretty, well-balanced and forward with nice expression of terrior. The quality of the wines speak for themselves. - Tony Rynders, Winemaker

We were pleased to host Wine Spectator Editor at Large, Harvey Steiman at our winery this past week. Here is what he had to say the next day in his blog on Wine Spectator online: |
|
Domaine Serene hits several home runs every vintage with its Pinot Noirs, including the mainstay Evenstad Reserve. I rated the current vintage (2003) of this $52 wine at 92 points. So, on my trip to Oregon this week, I stopped by the winery to taste the 2005s in barrel with winemaker Tony Rynders, and he uncorked a bottle each of the 2002 and 2003 Monogram. And a surprise--the new white Pinot. It's called Coeur Blanc, and it is not a pink blanc de noir but a serious, dry, barrel-fermented white wine from estate-grown PInot Noir grapes. - Read the entire blog HERE |

Sumptuous wine dinner a tribute to 9/11 heroes
by Karl Klooster, June 15, 2006
Although Manhattan and the Yamhill Valley wine country are at opposite sides of the continent, the atmosphere pervading Domaine Serene winery Saturday made the two places feel like the closest of neighbors. The occasion was a dinner and auction to benefit the children of firefighters who lost their lives in the twin towers on the disastrous day that will live in infamy as 9/11. But the story of how this particular event came about is as heartwarming as the tragedy was horrific. READ THE FULL STORY HERE |

On September 11, 2001, the brave firefighters of New York City's Rescue Company One lost eleven men in the collapse of the World Trade Center. On June 10, 2006 we let them know that we will never forget.
Domaine Serene hosted a once-in-a-lifetime evening of hand selected wines paired with cuisine from the World's greatest chefs, with proceeds to benefit The NYC Rescue 1 Foundation - Children of Fallen Members. This six course dinner was prepared by a distinguished line-up of guest chefs, including Tom Hurley, André Soltner, Dominick Cerrone and Thierry Rautureau. Members of Rescue 1 were in attendance, making this a truly memorable evening. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a huge success.

Domaine Serene Certified "Salmon Safe"
Salmon-Safe land management involves conservation practices that benefit the watershed where the farm or other site is located. Land managers can do much to promote healthy landscapes for salmon by planting trees along riparian areas, improving irrigation systems, erosion control, and being good stewards of the land.
The vineyards of Domaine Serene are managed according to standards that are verified independently. Based on Salmon-Safe's certification process, an operation is considered Salmon-Safe when both its impact upon the aquatic ecosystem is assessed and any negative impacts on water quality and fish habitat are minimized. Salmon-safe certification includes extensive on-site inspection by a qualified inspectors to ensure that growers are meeting the standards which have been set. |
FROM WINE SPECTATOR ONLINE: Naples Winter Wine Festival Sets a New High
When the final figures for the 2006 Naples Winter Wine Festival auction were announced, festival chairman and Domaine Serene winemaker Grace Evenstad was elated. Losing all trace of the calm that had been her hallmark in the week preceding the event, Evenstad hugged in turn her husband Ken, fellow trustee Donna Solimene and chef Emeril Lagasse. The 2006 auction raised a total of $12.2 million in live bids, confirming once again Naples' position as the top charity wine auction in the nation. READ THE FULL STORY HERE |

12 MILLION DOLLARS
The tent shook, the crowd cheered, and the wine and money flowed as the Naples Winter Wine Festival shattered the charity wine auction sound barrier Sunday, raising $12.19 million in a single day, about $1 million more than last year. DOMAINE SERENE TOPS
DOMAINE de la ROMANÉE-CONTI
Dayton, Oregon, Tuesday, June 29, 2004 – In a blind tasting by 37 wine industry professionals from throughout the United States, Oregon’s Domaine Serene Pinot Noir wines were blind tasted against the Grand Cru Burgundy wines of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC). In tasting flights from the 1998, 1999 and 2000 vintages, Domaine Serene wines swept the tastings, ranking first and second place in EVERY flight. Domaine Serene’s Grace Vineyard placed first in all three vintage flights.
“I was very pleased to see our wines show so well in this tasting since the very expensive Domaine de la Romanée-Conti wines are considered by most experts to be the worldwide gold standard for Pinot Noir wines,” said Ken Evenstad, Proprietor, Domaine Serene.
“The tasting panel was comprised of sommeliers, restauranteurs, wine retailers and distributors from 22 states across the country. To have this broad cross-section of tasters choose our wines over those of the DRC is quite an endorsement for Domaine Serene,” Evenstad stated.
The tasting panel participants were asked to rate the wines on aroma, taste and overall preference. The data was then input into a computer program to generate the order of preference. Each vintage flight was comprised of three DRC wines and three Domaine Serene wines. In all three vintages, Domaine Serene prevailed as the top wines.
*Prices for DRC wines are approximate. Prices for Domaine Serene wines are based on current release pricing.
