A Benchmark for Oregon Pinot Noir and Uniquely Domaine Serene
TASTING NOTES
Deep ruby red color with a lovely perfumed nose of raspberry and cherry fruit and a slightly smoky edge. True to the vineyard, this wine is complex, fruit forward and shows rounded, sweet fruit with notes of caramel, saddle leather and tea leaf. Well structured tannins lead to full and intense finish. Will age beautifully for a decade or more.
VINEYARD
Mark Bradford is one of the seven vineyards of the Evenstad Estate located on the southernmost hilltop of the Dundee Hills of Oregon. This 11-acre, west-facing vineyard, named after the Evenstad's son, was planted in 1993 at an elevation of 640-740 feet. The crumbly red soil is volcanic in origin and of the Jory series.
CROP YIELD & AGING
1.93 tons/acre. Aged 15 months in French oak barrels of which 80% were new.The 2005 “Mark Bradford Vineyard” Pinot Noir is comprised of 61% Wadenswil and 38% Pommard.
VINTAGE NOTES
After a warm and relatively dry winter, bud break arrived in early March. Spring weather was cool and relatively wet, thus creating a broad range in bloom from site to site. The resulting crop loads were relatively small. Moderate summer temperatures were followed by mild yet dry fall conditions. Because we dry farm, our one late season rain event sparked the arrival of intense flavors and a great degree of individual site expression. The wines from 2005 display a wonderful array of red, blue and black fruits and display impeccable balance and incredible length. One of the best vintages to date. |
