2015 Château de la Crée Meursault 'Les Tillets' Chardonnay
APPELLATION AND VINEYARDS
There may be no other region in the Côte de Beaune as synonymous with world-class Chardonnay as Meursault. White wines from the region are known to express more full-bodied richness when compared to those of their neighboring regions. Meursault is generally regarded as highly as its southern neighbor, Puligny-Montrachet, probably due to the commune’s reliably high-quality Premier Cru and commune-level wines. “Tillet” was a species of lime tree found surrounding the local vineyards in medieval times. The Les Tillets vineyard is above the Meursault village, at high elevations around 1,150 feet with south by south-east exposure. Soil composition is clay and brown limestone over a hard shallow limestone subsoil.|
The growing season progressed very quickly in the 2015 vintage. Flowering started in early June and shortly thereafter, was followed by veraison in mid-July. The beginning of harvest came very early and we were picking beautifully set grape clusters by the end of August. The warm weather dictated the tempo and led to magnificent grapes - the foundation of a great vintage. Overall, the 2015 vintage is gaining legendary status throughout the Cote d’Or. We were equally impressed with our vineyard estates. The grapes that we harvested were in impeccable condition and achieved optimal ripeness.
Stunning and charming on the nose, it is showing light aromatic hints of sweet and grilled almonds alongside orange peel notes. Soft minerality is present on the palate along with well-integrated fruit and minerality leading to a long and persistent finish. A beautiful wine at release, it will age gracefully in your cellar for many years.
