APPELLATION AND VINEYARDS
The southernmost village within the Côte d’Or, Santenay is recognized for its graceful Pinot Noirs, but also produces intense, mineral-rich Chardonnays of great depth and structure. The Gravières vineyard lies close to the border of Chassagne-Montrachet and may be the most prestigious parcel in Santenay. With southerly exposure and elevation ranging from 690-780 feet, the vineyard grows both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The word Gravières refers to its gravel soils which give way to deeper clay and sand.
A wine of great focus and tension, the 2014 Gravières is mineral-driven and vibrant on the nose, with lemon zest, spiced honey, and crisp pear aromatics giving depth and complexity. The crushed-stone quality on the mid-palate gives way to a mouth-watering acidity, making for an exceptionally textural and elegant offering.
