2017 Château de la Crée, Santenay Charmes Chardonnay 750ml
Santenay is located south of Chassagne-Montrachet and is the most southern village of Burgundy’s famous Côte-d’Or region. Santenay’s etymology derives from the Latin word “Sanctus,” implying a place considered sacred even before the Christian era. This ancient village first became famous in Roman times for its hot springs named Santinae Aquae (“health-giving waters”). The soils here are predominantly limestone and marl with some gravel. Our small parcel of Chardonnay vines in the Charmes vineyard enjoys a gentle southeastern exposure at elevations above 800 feet.
Immediate aromatics of crisp golden apple showcase Charmes’ bright and cheery nature, with nuances of honeycomb and butter toast, providing a generous and soft counterbalance. On the palate, candied lemon flavors and juicy acidity lean into a rounded mouthfeel and long mouthwatering finish. Another outstanding offering from this consistently excellent vineyard.
