2015 Château de la Crée, Santenay Charmes Chardonnay
Santenay is located right south to Chassagne-Montrachet and is the most southern village of Burgundy famous “Cote D’or” (“Golden Coast”) region. The etymology of Santenay is most probably connected to the word “Sanctus” which refers to a sacred place before Christian era. The appellation, 140 ha of planted vines, is composed of three areas, one next to Chassagne, one around the village and one just south of the village.
The growing season progressed very quickly in the 2015 vintage. Flowering started in early June and shortly thereafter, was followed by veraison in mid-July. The beginning of harvest came very early and we were picking beautifully set grape clusters by the end of August. The warm weather dictated the tempo and led to magnificent grapes - the foundation of a great wine.
Fresh and intense flavors of green apple and citrus are the hallmarks of this elegant, handsomely opulent white Burgundy. On the palate, the wine’s beautiful fruit profile is complemented by a subtle mineral acidity that carries seamlessly through to a slight hazelnut finish of remarkable length. It’s a gorgeous wine built for pleasure!
