Rich in ferruginous clay and mid-sized rocks, “Les Épenotes” vineyard is located at the southern tip of the Beaune appellation, and embodies both the finesse of Beaune’s Premiers Crus and the instensity of the Villages further south. The slope is gentle and faces east.

Winemaker Tasting Notes
The nose is expressive, with red fruits (cherry, pomegranate) and sweet spices (nutmeg, black pepper), blending with floral notes (rose, bramble flower, violet, rosewood, almond blossom) and notes of leather. On the palate, a beautiful, concentrated freshness and pleasant crispy tannins. The attack is sharp with iodic notes. This wine shows great roundness, opulence and power!
Vintage Notes
The winter was mild, but the alternation of warm and cool periods slowed the vines’ growth cycle, thus budbreak was expected for late March - early April. As spring frost spared our vines, flowering began toward the end of May. A first heatwave came in early July, followed by a second one between August 10th and 25th, slightly delaying veraison. At the Château de la Crée, harvest started on September 3rd under summer conditions. 2023 marks the second consecutive vintage delivering both above-average yields and quality. The Chardonnay has reached optimal ripeness while preserving a lovely freshness. The Pinot Noir shows great aromatic structure.
Beaune
Beaune, an emblematic Burgundian city and the capital of Bourgogne's wine trade, attracts global attention during the prestigious annual Hospices de Beaune Wine auction. Renowned for its extensive vineyards, Beaune produces robust red wines with a rich history dating back to the late Middle Ages, alongside exceptional Chardonnay-based whites. In 1936 Beaune solidified its reputation as a premier wine-producing region, with terroir characterized by altitudes ranging from 220 to 300 meters, steep slopes, and diverse soil compositions, with exposures extending from east to due south. Through our Maison Evenstad label, we have been honored to partner with the region’s finest growers and negotiants to have access to exquisite grapes to craft amazing Premier Crus, like our Les Aigrots.
