A note from our winemaker

This Spring collection is a celebration of the Côte de Beaune- its heritage, its passion, and its unwavering commitment to producing outstanding wines. We have carefully curated this collection to showcase the diversity and excellence of the Côte de Beaune. In this shipment, you will discover each region expresses its own personality and nuances, as these wines truly reflect the soul of the land.

It has been an immense honor to own vineyards in this cherished area of the world. Since Ken and Grace Evenstad founded Domaine Serene in 1989, their inspiration has always come from the beloved Burgundy region with the goal of owning vineyards to craft and share the wine that ignited their passion.

Thank you for being part of our winemaking journey as a valued wine club member. Cheers to the arrival of spring and the pleasure of sharing our passion for exceptional wines with you!

Meet our Burgundy winemaker

Since 2017, our winemaker Pablo Bosch and our viticultural team have worked closely with the Evenstads and the Domaine Serene team to implement techniques in the vineyard and the cellar to elevate wine quality.

The Château de la Crée winemaking team strives to continually combine innovative vinification techniques to accentuate the finest qualities of the legendary terroir found only in Burgundy.

While great wines begin with great vineyards, no detail is left unexplored throughout the winemaking process.  There is no cutting corners in our quest to craft the highest quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the world.

SANTENAY

Nestled at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune, Santenay wines beautifully balance a fresh, fruity character with a distinct mineral quality. The rugged high grounds, reaching an impressive altitude of 500 meters, boast captivating greyish limestones as their signature. Further down the slope, around the 300-meter line, you'll encounter a captivating medley of oolitic limestones, white oolite, marls, kidney-shaped limestones, and lower oolite lovingly layered upon marl. These exceptional geological features create an ideal haven for vineyards, blessed with gentle exposures between the soothing East and vibrant South. What sets Santenay apart from other regions is its ability to maintain its unmistakable mineral notes even at higher levels of ripeness. This makes the wines of Santenay exceptional in their ability to balance ripeness with the unique terroir characteristics, resulting in wines that are both refined and full of personality.

POMMARD WINES

POMMARD

Immerse yourself in the rich history of Pommard, a wine that held the title of Burgundy's finest even in the Middle Ages. It was the standard by which all other wines were measured, an emblem of excellence that continues to captivate connoisseurs. Pommard became one of the early trailblazers in obtaining the esteemed AOC designation back in 1936, sealing its reputation as an unparalleled red wine created solely from the venerable Pinot Noir grape. As you journey through the vineyards, you'll discover a fascinating diversity of soils. The lower grounds reveal ancient alluvium, anchoring the roots of the vines. Mid-slope, clay-limestone soils provide excellent drainage, enhanced by scattered rock debris. Ascending further, you'll encounter Jurassic marls, accompanied by brown calcic soils and limestone formations. Our Pommard vineyards benefit from an ideal exposure to the generous rays of the sun, gifting the grapes with unparalleled ripeness and complexity. The altitudes, ranging from 250 to 330 meters, create an idyllic sanctuary for the flourishing vines.

CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET WINES

CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET

The Pinot Noir wines from the Chassagne-Montrachet region are typically delicate and refined. They showcase classic Burgundian characteristics, such as bright red fruit flavors, earthy notes, and a beautiful balance of acidity and tannins. These wines often exhibit complexity and have the potential to age gracefully with proper cellaring. Chassagne-Montrachet benefits from its unique terroir, including limestone-rich soils and a favorable mesoclimate, which contribute to the distinct expression of Pinot Noir.

BEAUNE WINES

The Land

BEAUNE

The winemaking history of this iconic town dates back to the Middle Ages, when the Dukes of Burgundy produced the renowned Pinot Vermilion red wine, known for its aromatic and fiery qualities. In the synclinal of Volnay, the Comblanchien limestone gives way to the Rauracian layer, resulting in steep slopes with thin, scree-derived black rendzinas. The lower slopes feature Argovian marls, deep soils of various shades, and a mixture of limestones and clay. With optimal exposure facing east to due south and altitudes ranging from 220 to 300 meters, the vineyards in Beaune benefit from favorable conditions for grape cultivation. We are thankful for the special partnership we have with the local négociant. The wines produced in this collaboration are highly age-worthy and have been crafted using organic and biodynamic methods.

SAVIGNY-LÈS-BEAUNE WINES

The Land

SAVIGNY-LÈS-BEAUNE

Located between the Hill of Corton and Beaune, the vineyards in this region boast a storied past. The presence of a grand 14th-century castle attests to the appellation's noble heritage. Officially designated as an AOC in 1937, the vineyards span an altitude range of 250 to 400 meters, making this a desirable area for us to create a Maison Evenstad wine. The lower slopes showcase alluvial soils sourced from the Rhoin river, while the terrain higher up reflects the geology of the Hill of Corton, characterized by gravelly soils and oolitic ironstone. Moving down the slope, the red-brown limestone transitions into clayey and pebbly compositions. On the opposite side facing East, the limestone soils harbor traces of sand.

MARANGES WINES

These wines, carefully curated for the Chevalier d'Or membership, are exclusive to your Spring shipment.

MARANGES

Maranges is a wine-producing commune situated in the southernmost part of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy. Though this area is more well known for its medium-bodied Pinot Noir, we have purposefully planted and crafted this special Chardonnay in small quantities. The appellation of Maranges is highly regarded for its consistently good and ripe wines, reflecting the expertise and skill of our growers benefitting from the meticulous care and organic farming practices we employ.

Past Release & Vintage

While our emphasis is on the 2021 vintage, we couldn't resist including two library wines for you to experience the exceptional aging potential of these carefully crafted bottles. It is an opportunity to witness the evolution of flavors and appreciate the artistry behind our wines.
