The southernmost village within the Côte d’Or, Santenay is located just south of Chassagne-Montrachet. East of the village around 900 feet in elevation stands Clos Faubard, a small vineyard of fewer than ten acres with soil that combines Jurassic rock, clay, and limestone. Château de la Crée’s parcel of these 64-year-old vines enjoys a south-southeast exposure, producing wines of substantial power and aging ability.

The 2019 Château de la Crée, Santenay Premier Cru Clos Faubard Pinot Noir gives fresh red fruit aromas of morello cherry, kirsch, and red plums. The palate opens with a lovely dense blackberry fruit flavor with elements of licorice, anise, black tea, and smoke. The texture is dense and ripe, and there are plenty of well-managed tannins to carry this to a charming finish.
