Puligny-Montrachet is considered by many to be the most elegant and noble appellation for white wine in Burgundy: a place where Chardonnay’s potential for mineral-driven complexity and balanced structure reaches its peak. The chalky La Garenne Premier Cru vineyard looks out over the valley from high elevations around 1,200 feet, close to the top of the Côte d’Or slope near the town of Blagny. Soils are extremely rich in Bathonian limestone, with some gravel and clay. Our own small parcel of mature 30-year-old Chardonnay vines has excellent drainage and good sun exposure from its southeastern aspect and row orientation.

The 2020 Château de la Crée, Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru La Garenne, Chardonnay is a wine that has a nose of overripe pear, light anise, white fennel, and honeysuckle. The palate consists of meyer lemon bars with graham cracker, key lime, and is nicely balanced with full acidity to refresh the palate. This wine has a finish of creaminess that sits on the palate afterward, similar to butter & salt. This chardonnay would pairs well with thai, sushi, peking duck, or curry.
