The southernmost village within the Côte d’Or, Santenay is located just south of Chassagne-Montrachet. East of the village around 900 feet in elevation stands Clos Faubard, a small vineyard of fewer than ten acres with soil that combines Jurassic rock, clay, and limestone. Château de la Crée’s parcel of these 64-year-old vines enjoy a south-southeast exposure, producing wines of substantial power and aging ability. The vineyard is filled with warm thick skinned grapes due to the warm vintage.

The 2020 Château de la Creé Santenay Premier Cru Clos Faubard Pinot Noir is a dark, berry-driven wine with savory notes and a subtle finish. The nose is dominated by fruit characters as opposed to typical earthy Burgundy flavor. The palate is round and voluminous, and is great for cellaring and aging. The finish is round & opulent, elongated, and tannins that carry through to give salinity in the finish. This wine pairs well with a pork dish or a steak.
