2020 Maison Evenstad Pommard Premier Cru Clos de Verger
Pommard can be found between Beaune and Volnay. Once owned by the Dukes of Burgundy, these lands are home to elegant and fresh red wines, crafted entirely from Pinot Noir. The appellation extends from a clay-limestone soil mid-slope to a Jurassic soil at the top of the hillside. The “Clos de Verger” Climat benefits from full southern exposure on a gentle slope near the village of Pommard.

Vintage Notes
The 2020 growing season in Pommard was characterized by an early, warm, and exceptionally dry spring and summer, which accelerated the vegetative cycle. Thanks to the deep clay and iron-rich soils of Pommard, the vines avoided severe drought stress while retaining the natural acidity of the grapes. The vintage concluded with one of the earliest harvests on record, resulting in deeply concentrated, muscular Pinot Noirs that balance bold fruit with remarkable freshness.
Pommard
Immerse yourself in the rich history of Pommard, a wine that held the title of Burgundy's finest, even in the Middle Ages. It was the standard by which all other wines were measured, an emblem of excellence that continues to captivate connoisseurs. Pommard became one of the early trailblazers in obtaining the esteemed AOC designation back in 1936, sealing its reputation as an unparalleled red wine created solely from the venerable Pinot Noir grape. As you journey through the vineyards, you'll discover a fascinating diversity of soils. The lower grounds reveal ancient alluvium, anchoring the roots of the vines. Mid-slope, clay-limestone soils provide excellent drainage, enhanced by scattered rock debris. Ascending further, you'll encounter Jurassic marls, accompanied by brown calcic soils and limestone formations. Our Pommard vineyards benefit from an ideal exposure to the generous rays of the sun, gifting the grapes with unparalleled ripeness and complexity. The altitudes, ranging from 250 to 330 meters, create an idyllic sanctuary for the flourishing vines.
