Satenay, The southernmost village within the Côte d’Or, is located just south of Chassagne-Montrachet. East of the village around 900 feet in elevation stands Clos Faubard, a small vineyard of fewer than ten acres with soil that combines Jurassic rock, clay, and limestone. Château de la Crée’s parcel of these 64-year-old vines enjoy a south-southeast exposure, producing wines of substantial power and aging ability. The vineyard is filled with warm thick skinned grapes due to the warm vintage.

This wine captivates the senses with enticing notes of creme brulee, caramelized sugar, and vanilla, complemented by a vibrant presence of fresh lime in the mid palate. With a notable acidity, it exhibits a creamy texture on the outside, showcasing its expressive nature as it hails from Santenay, in the upper village, on a perfect slope for Chardonnay.

The wines of Santenay exhibit distinct characteristics stemming from their specific terroirs within the appellation. Established in 1937, the Santenay AOC status underscores the area's viticultural significance. The terroir comprises grayish limestone dominating the higher elevations up to 500 meters, transitioning into oolitic limestones, marls, and other geological formations lower down the slope. This diverse landscape, coupled with an optimal vineyard exposure ranging from east to south, contributes to the quality and complexity of the wines produced in the region.
