Château de la Crée Santenay Premier Cru Clos Faubard Pinot Noir

Winemaker Tasting Notes

The nose is elegant, with notes of wood and red berries (strawberry, raspberry) as well as smooth hints of dried flowers, almonds, leather, and coffee. The mouth is round and the tannins coat the palate. Red berries reappear. The finish is persistent, highly mineral, with great aromatic intensity and notes of graphite.

Vintage Notes

The winter was mild, but the alternation of warm and cool periods slowed the vines’ growth cycle, thus budbreak was expected for late March - early April. As spring frost spared our vines, flowering began toward the end of May. A first heatwave came in early July, followed by a second one between August 10th and 25th, slightly delaying veraison. At the Château de la Crée, harvest started on September 3rd under summer conditions. 2023 marks the second consecutive vintage delivering both above-average yields and quality. The Chardonnay has reached optimal ripeness while preserving a lovely freshness. The Pinot Noir shows great aromatic structure.

Santenay

The wines of Santenay exhibit distinct characteristics stemming from their specific terroirs within the appellation. Established in 1937, the Santenay AOC status underscores the area's viticultural significance. The terroir comprises grayish limestone dominating the higher elevations up to 500 meters, transitioning into oolitic limestones, marls, and other geological formations lower down the slope. This diverse landscape, coupled with an optimal vineyard exposure ranging from east to south, contributes to the quality and complexity of the wines produced in the region. We have been proud owners of Santenay vineyards since 2015, bringing innovation to the rich heritage of the land and wines.
