October 9, 2023 / Acclaim James Suckling names the 2019 Récolte Grand Cru Chardonnay the highest-scoring wine in Oregon

James Suckling Associate Editors Claire Nesbitt and Andrii Stetsiuk explored wineries in Oregon’s Willamette Valley in late March 2023, searching for stand-out wines from the 2019 and 2021 vintages.

We are honored for the Domaine Serene Chardonnay Dundee Hills Récolte Grand Cru 2019 to be selected as not only the highest-scoring wine that was tasted during their tour but also deemed to be an “intense, layered and powerful” wine of outstanding quality.

With the Domaine Serene Chardonnay Dundee Hills Récolte Grand Cru 2019 made from a selection of the best chardonnay parcels from Domaine Serene’s estate vineyards in Dundee Hills, every cluster of grapes selected for this wine is hand-picked and treated with incomparable care, creating an “intense and powerful” wine of outstanding acclaim.

Additionally, as of April 24, 2023, the Domaine Serene Chardonnay Dundee Hills Récolte Grand Cru 2019 was not only the highest-scoring wine in Oregon, but the highest-scoring wine of the year so far.

“It was the vintage of fortitude,” said Michael Fay, the vice president of winemaking and viticulture at Domaine Serene. “As a winemaker, you have to be so in tune with the weather and you also have to have this sense of what’s going to happen. Everything got ripe in the end with little disease pressure because it was sunny after the rains, and our canopies were open.”
